Default Sardelac Sanitarium's Purpose

Guru gets alot of suggestions every day - ALOT of suggestions. Some ideas are good. Some ideas are bad. Some ideas should be added the moment they entered a persons brain. Some ideas should have remained non-existant.

However, after all this time, out of all the ideas that have been suggested, has ANet ever implimented one? If so, was it recent?

If the whole point of the Sanitarium is just to "get your ideas out there for people to see," then why do people take it so seriously? That is, when someone suggests that Major runes be dropped from 35 Health to 25 Health, why do people react so vigorously?

My point is...

... In the end, if the Sanitarium's suggestions are never even considered by ANet to be added, and the Sanitarium is not for "getting your ideas to other people," then...

... What's the point of it?

Because a lot of things that players would liek only serve their own agenda or personal interest and would not be the best for the game.

Oh please, there have definitely been changes that were suggested in the suggestion forum. Pet controls comes to mind as a recent one.

I do find the "new profession" and "new skill" threads amusing though; they're definitely not releasing any new professions, and probably no new skills either, so they seem rather pointless.

The point of that forum is to act as an auto-filter. People, for reasons I cannot imagine, insist on suggesting the same predictable, tiresome ideas over and over again. The existence of the Sanitarium conveniently filters those posts out of otherwise more useful forums and puts them in their own section of the forums where it can be conveniently ignored by people like me. It is the same concept as a spam filter, except instead of having to use software your users do it for you; it is particularly brilliant in that respect. If I want to read the intellectual equivalent of MLM or penis enlargement spam, I can go to the Sanitarium. Otherwise, it gets the same attention the spam folder in my email account does. As such, Sardelac Sanitarium is vital to the long term health of this forum.

The two things off the top of my mind are 1. Giving mini Varesh a scythe and 2...

...Aight I forgot the 2nd one. It might've been disabling minipet noises in outposts.

Interesting that the only ones I know of are minipet related.

I think dye preview and white dye were suggested at some point before they were actually implemented.

According to the Anet people that post here, they read the forums, but how much they listen to them are beyond me. Some things posted on the forums, like fixing the loot nerf some, nerfing IWay, nerfing HA to 6 chars, and de-nerfing HA get listed to. I think sassis were partly added because people were asking for a dagger-weilding class and duel weilding.

Does Anet listen in general? Probably not unless they are thinking about some thing and can't decide either way... Or unless people call for a nerf.

Yeah, you'd be surprised how many things actually have been impliamented because of (or purphas, just a coincidence that it was suggested) Sardelac. Some titles come to mind.

Also, the Asuran Sunglasses was also a suggestion.

After Factions came out, I posted a thread in Sardelac asking to update the favor of the gods in Zin Ku Corridor. Several weeks later, they did. The lack of favor notice was likely an oversight, and it's quite possible that the update was a coincidence.

I suggested a while ago the ability to replay ingame videos and I was surprised one day to see it implemented via an NPC in Prophecies, but this was apparently just a one-off as I haven't seen it since then.

I think if you go to the Suggestion Index sticky, down at the bottom is a list of things which have actually be implemented into the game.

Also, its as Ensign says. Its a place to collect all the ideas instead of allowing the same old topics to clutter up forums for different discussions. Besides that, however, you could say its also for all those insane ideas people have inspired by the game. They have to tell somebody what they think would be cool, so why not simply suggest it? Anet can watch and see what gets a positive reaction, and everyone else gets to debate the pros and cons of the suggestion.

Also, even if an idea isn't taken, maybe part of the idea (referring to skill and concept classes) may be incorporated in some way by the devs. I'm a big believer in ideas spawning ideas, as you can sometimes read threads that start out " I was reading this other thread..."

It's a good creative vent for the community, imo.

But that's just my two cents
